Onboarding

Onboarding is the process of integrating new hires into their new work environment and into the culture of the organization. It is relationship building and establishing connections with people inside of the organization in order to make new hires more satisfied and to make the choice to leave the organization more difficult. Therefore, Onboarding is a key tool in the retention of new hires.

Onboarding consists of System, Affiliate and Department Onboarding. Newly-hired employees participate in all sessions within the first few days of their start with the organization.

Day One - System Onboarding

On Day 1, new employees from across the health system come together to spend the day in an atmosphere of activity, interaction and learning. You will leave with a better understanding about Memorial Health System and the importance of your role in this organization. Our mission "to improve the health of the people and communities we serve", is why we put our patients at the center of all we do. You will also learn of Memorial Health System's vision and the values we believe make this a great place to work.

We will spend the day interacting with many of our senior and system leaders as you become oriented to the culture and environment of Memorial. During this first day you will be provided with information to help you succeed as you begin your career at MHS. These include:

  • Memorial's Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Creating a Great Patient Experience
  • Building a Great Team
  • Memorial's Behavioral Standards
  • Quality and Safety in the Work Environment
  • Human Resources: "What We Can Do for You"
  • Learning Opportunities for Professional Development
  • Memorial's New Star Program

Day 2 - Affiliate Onboarding

Your onboarding continues into Day 2, where you will join others at your affiliate location to focus on specific information that you will need to know at the location you will be working. These affiliate specific topics will help you answer questions that are specific to your individual needs and include the following:

  • Tour of the Affiliate Location
  • Parking and Security
  • Telephone and Computer Usage
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Human Resources: Benefits Overview
  • Joining a Multigenerational Team
  • Employee Involvement and Communication
  • Your Department Introduction

Department Onboarding

A thorough Department Onboarding is essential to the success of each new employee at Memorial Health System. This is your time to spend asking questions and building relationships with your leader and your coworkers. During this time, you will learn about policies and procedures that are in place, as well as the expectations of your role. In addition you will receive and additional training and education in the following areas:

  • Tour of the Department
  • Overview of your first week
  • Attendance and Timekeeping Policies
  • Dress Code
  • Contact Information and Call in procedures
  • Meal and Break Policies
  • Development of Individual and Department Goals
  • Department Policies and Procedures
